Gatti-Ward
IV signed
Sept. 7 showdown at
Retired Boxers Foundation
Celebrity Golf
Tournament
SANDWICH,
Mass. (September 3, 2004) – One of boxing’s all-time greatest
rivalries – “Irish” Micky Ward and Arturo “Thunder” Gatti
– will square-off again September 7, not in a blood stained ring,
but on the friendly links in the inaugural Retired Boxers Foundation
(RBF) Celebrity Golf Tournament, presented by Tuohy Sports &
Entertainment (TSE) at the Andover Country Club (Andover, MA).
Ward
is the Honorary Chairman and his close fried, Gatti, has agreed to
play in the star-studded tournament for the benefit of RBF.
“Everybody who knows of the Gatti-Ward trilogy links them together
as something very important in boxing for what they did in the ring
and how they are in real life,” RBF board member Gary Litchfield
explained. “Nothing could be better for our inaugural tournament
than to have Micky and Arturo playing in it. I was touched by all of
the kinds words said at Micky’s retirement party and the kindest,
most heartfelt words of all were spoken by Arturo. We’re thrilled
to have them playing in our tournament. Now, all we can hope for
great weather, so we can help raise more money for the Retired
Boxers Foundation to continue their great work helping
boxers.”
