Stars coming out for RBFgolf fundraiser
Sept. 7 in Andover
for Retired Boxers Foundation
SANDWICH, Mass.
(August 27, 2005) – The stars will be out September 7 for the
inaugural Retired Boxers Foundation (RBF) Celebrity Golf Tournament,
Tuohy Sports & Entertainment (TSE) at the Andover Country Club
(Andover, MA).
Pros On Pros,
the sports radio show produced by Tuohy Sports and hosted by former
NHL referee and player Paul Stewart, will hit the road and broadcast
live 6-8 p.m. during the awards dinner at the RBF Celebrity Golf
Tournament. Pros On Pros airs Tuesday nights (6-8 p.m.) on WWZN
(AM), 1510 The Zone, Boston’s boxing station.
“This golf
tournament grew out of a VIP luncheon honoring Micky Ward last
year,” RBF board member Gary Litchfield explained. “We knew that
was a one-time event, however, we realized that there was tremendous
interest in pro boxing, especially in the Boston area, and in a
large part because of Micky Ward’s success. We wanted to establish
an annual event and I thought a golf tournament was a good way to
go. I had heard of Hank and Tuohy Sports and contacted him to assist
and insure that the RBF Celebrity Golf Tournament will be a success.
Our ultimate goal is to raise money for the Retired Boxers
Foundation to continue their great work helping boxers.”
Active and
retired boxers invited to attend the tournament and/or awards dinner
include Honorary Chairman “Irish” Micky Ward, Arturo
“Thunder” Gatti, State Auditor Joe DeNucci, Tony DeMarco, Vinny
“The Pazmanian Devil” Paz, Richie “The Mountain” LaMontagne,
1960 gold medal winner Dr. Wilbert “Skeeter” McClure, and 2004
Olympian Jason Estrada. Other former athletes and sports
personalities scheduled to appear include Boston Bruins Ken Hodge,
Gary Doak, Bob Sweeney, John “Pie” McKenzie, Bob Beers, Bronco
Horvath, Andy Brickley; Boston Red Sox Joe Morgan, Bill Lee, Luis
Tiant; New England Patriots Tom Yewcic, Tom Stephens, Len St. Jean,
Larry Eisenhauer; Boston Celtics Jo Jo White; Buffalo Bills Todd
Krueger; Peter Vaas and Dave Shea.
“DCN/Nextel
already has signed on as a platinum title sponsor,” TSE president
Hank Tuohy said. “DCN/Nextel has and will continue helping boxers
as a sponsor of our fights and charity golf tournaments. Waltham
Ford is sponsoring the hole-in-one shootout. The first person in the
tournament that sinks a hole-in-one on the Waltham Ford designated
hole will win a Ford SUV. Plus there will be vacation trips
available to win on other par 3 holes.”
Lunch will be
served at 12 noon, followed by a Shotgun start at 1 p.m. All players
will receive an embroidered Calloway golf shirt. After 18 holes an
awards dinner with prizes and an auction to benefit RBF will be held
at the Andover Country Club. The fee to play and attend the awards
dinner is $200.00, or $75.00 to attend the award dinner only. Cost
to sponsor a hole is $150.00.
