ESPN2 Friday Night Fights were held at the
Cape Cod Melody Tent in 1999 through 2001. World-class fighters in past
action there include Zab Judah, Jose Rivera, Kip Diggs and Angel Vasquez.
“I was involved
in the marketing end of the three ESPN2 fights at the Cape Cod Melody Tent,”
promoter Hank Tuohy, explained. “It’s been
two years since the last fight there. ESPN approached me to ask if I’d be
interested in bringing its ‘Friday Night Fights’ back to Hyannis this
summer. We sold out 2200 seats the last time and everybody had a good time.
It’s a great summer event on The Cape and that’s why I’m promoting
‘Battle Zone At The Tent.’ This is great for an entertaining evening
for all of the boxing fans there, and watching on ESPN2, as well as the sponsors
for marketing exposure. We’re also going to have a special
retirement ceremony for former IBO & NABF welterweight champion Kippy
"Top Kat" Diggs, of Barnstable, who fought for the last
time in the 1999 ESPN2 fight card in Hyannis against Rivera in the main
event.”
